Who is E-File?

efile promo code for tax returns

E-File is a Florida-based website founded in 2013. That’s as far as the information goes on the website. While there is an “About Us” section, all it talks about is what the website can provide which we will cover in a moment. Not helping matters on finding any information about E-File is there is another website called efile.com which is also based out of Florida. Information on the two websites is therefore scattered and inter-mixed. They could easily be the same company, or it could be a coincidence that they just so happened to have similar names; after all, even the IRS homepage has a section on e-files.

Confusion about who they are aside, E-File is a tax filing website. Like all similar websites, it needs approval from the IRS to operate which E-File does have. This means that, despite the very limited amount of information on the founders and parent company, E-File is a legitimate company and website. Having been founded not even ten years ago, E-File finds itself in a highly competitive market. With names like TurboTax and H&R Block having much more staying power, E-File attempts to get its name across by offering highly competitive prices. Along with offering a free, although heavily limited, package E-File also offers a Deluxe and Premium package for 18.99 and 34.95 respectively.

These are very affordable prices, but ones that comes with conditions. E-File’s website and software is heavily “DIY”-based. While offering a large help section and guides on certain tax forms and guidelines, users will have to navigate the software on their own. The bare bone aspect isn’t always a negative, as for users that are experienced with filling in tax forms can easily get their filing done in an afternoon. E-File also has a few more quirks that set it apart from the competition. All state taxes filed, unless in Florida and Nevada, require a upfront charge of nineteen dollars This price is with the promo code provided, which we will discuss in a moment. Thankfully if you have to file taxes in multiple states E-File will only charge the nineteen dollars once and not for every state and the fee doesn’t change with the package either. Meaning someone that is using the free package won’t pay less or more than someone with the Premium package. E-File also lacks an import function, meaning PDF tax forms will have to be written in manually.

How to Use E-File Discount Codes

E-File provides coupon codes upfront when you purchase a package. However, looking closer, these promotional codes only apply to the state taxes and not the software and services themselves. This means that E-File offers an already discounted product with a promo code for another service they offer. Not a bad deal entirely. The codes are simple in format. The ones I saw were called “SAVE24”, with 24.99 being the original price of the Deluxe package which I wondered has any connection but it appears that it’s a coincidence. While the discount is already applied to the package at checkout, you have to manually put in the promo code in a box near the check-out tab.

Looking around more on the website, I was unable to find any more information about promo codes. This doesn’t rule out the possibility of promo codes being provided by email to entice customers, but I saw no evidence of this or any other promo codes.

How to Connect with E-File.com:

Actual connecting with E-File is difficult. At the bottom of their home page and under “About Us” there is a “Contact Us” button. You have to sign up with E-Files beforehand to be able to ask any questions, but I can tell you that they use a ticket system and not any form of live service. Your question will therefore be answered when they get to it, which isn’t helpful with much more pressing issues. No phone number is provided either, only the number to the IRS which they suggest you call if you’re having tax-related problems. As mentioned before, E-File had a plethora of articles to attempt to answer any questions you have which still doesn’t help if you need to connect with someone and get more clear answers.

E-File has a Presence on Various Social Media Channels:

Facebook: (https://www.facebook.com/Efilecom/)

Twitter: (https://twitter.com/efilecom)

At the time of this writing these pages weren’t updated since May 2019 and all the posts were related to taxes and filing your taxes. I noticed that the number of followers were higher on Facebook than Twitter. If you need to reach out to them on social media, I would say Facebook is the better choice but even then I am not sure if their responses would be faster than the ticket system already on their website.

Refund Policy

Under the “About Us” section, there is a “Requesting A Refund” button. E-Files presents a step-by-step guide on how to refund your purchase and promises that it’s OK if you wish to refund your purchase. According to these steps the first thing to do is log into your account and go to the “Help” section in the top-right corner of your screen. Here you will be present with a text box and you are to write in what it is you need help with. Regardless what you type in, E-File recommends scrolling to the bottom of the screen until you find a “Still need help? Click here to contact us?” button. From here you will have to manually put in a request for a refund and why you would like a refund and hit send. Again, it’s a ticket system so your request can take a matter of days.

However, the steps listed for asking for a refund are much more complicated than they need to be. Simply scroll down to “Contact Us” under “About Us”, as previously discussed, and when presented with the screen selection of what you need help with you’ll find “Requesting a Refund for a Purchase” as an option. The steps that E-Files offer is a much more drawn out path that can easily be avoided by just scrolling down on the home screen.
